Stanley Getz (February 2, 1927 – June 6, 1991) was an American jazz saxophonist, professionally known as Stan Getz. Playing primarily the tenor saxophone, Getz was known as "The Sound" because of his warm, lyrical tone, his prime influence being the wispy, mellow timbre of his idol, Lester Young. Stan Getz was a complicated, self-destructive man, a heroin addict for many years, a raging alcoholic for many more, a man who made enemies at the same time he made some of the most beautiful, most melodic music ever played by a tenor saxophonist. Stan Getz was born at St. Vincent's Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Feb. 2, 1927. He had one brother, Robert, who was born on October 30, 1932. His parents had come from the Kiev area in the Ukraine in 1903, tired and fearful of the Pogroms. Stan Getz and his West Coast Jazz is a musical treasure.

It was included in Rolling Stone ' s and Vibe ' s lists of best albums of all time.
